NeateatSydney Reckons: You can’t pass up the Flower Child French Toast!
Having frequented their sister cafe at Warringah Mall, I was excited to take my friend to try out Flower Child at Chatswood Westfield. We arrived early knowing that there would be queue, and as expected there was! Luckily as it was about 11am, so we only waited about 5 minutes or so. We were presented a table in between the shopping centre walkway, instead of the semi covered botanical greenhouse which makes this place so quaint and unique, but it actually suited us well because my friend was with a pram so we invited the extra space.
My friend ordered the Eggs Benedict served on a Freshly Baked Croissant with Poached Eggs covered in Burnt Butter Hollandaise, Espresso & Tomato jam and Proscuitto. It came out looking beautifully presented with microherbs and the eggs were perfectly poached.
For myself, I ordered The Vegan Bowl – House made falafel, quinoa, sweet potato, wild rocket leaf, pickled gold beets, avocado, roast truss tomato, pomegranate, spiced chickpeas, almonds, sesame seeds, pickled beetroot hummus and lemon tahini dressing. I was surprised at how well all the flavours worked together – it was all delicious and I left feeling full and satisfied, despite all the bad rep that vegan meals have!
My only complaint is that on either side of us there was an order of the Flower Child French Toast and boy-oh-boy did it look good!! Piled high with mascarpone, berries, pecans and edible flowers, it was the breakfast of dreams and kind of dish that makes you hungry again even though you’ve just eaten a completely satisfying meal!
My overall recommendation is to take a peak and what everyone else is eating to help you decide what to order – the menu was slightly different to the one at Warringah Mall and also looks to be seasonal (so the pumpkin brioche that I had been hoping to order was no longer available). Having said that, everything on the menu looks great and is reasonably priced.
